The mission of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (Virginia's State Historic Preservation Office) is to identify, evaluate, register, and help communities and citizens preserve, interpret, and use Virginia's rich historic assets for the economic, educational and cultural benefit of all. Inventory maps were scanned at 300 ppi and georeferenced. Georeferenced archaeological inventory maps were digitized using ArcGIS. summer 2007 VA Economic Development Partnership initial review of sites flagged during digitizing as needing further investigation. Summer/Fall 2007 Reviewed 495 sites which needed further investigation. All sites were addressed. Fall 2007/Winter 2008 Sara Leonard To have an indicator of a sensitive site, but not delineate exact location or extent, a half mile buffer was created as a standard representation of a sensitive site. The feature was placed in a random method such that the sensitive site will be located somewhere within the boundary.
